I’ve always wanted to have a slide phone. I’ve tried other slide phones that my friends and/or siblings own. Some actually were very nice indeed: streamlined design, glossy surface, light, huge display with neat resolution, smooth spring slide, etc. However, I wasn’t as satisfied for I know Nokia may have most if not all of those features as well. One more thing, in texting, I’m like so used in keying zero (0) to mean space in between words. Other phones don’t have that. They instead assigned the pound sign as the space bar. Ho-hum~!
I also consider Nokia a very user-friendly phone. Well, perhaps since I got myself a Nokia 3210 way back 1994, I’ve effortlessly attuned to how easy it is to text using Nokia keypad. Since I always use predictive text input, I don’t always glance at the display and thus I could multi-task, i.e., walk, talk, eat, read, etc. while texting.
The Nokia N95 was touted to be the best equipped mobile phone in the market when it was first released in September 2006. I could still remember the astronomical price of this feature-packed phone which could match that of a laptop that already has a built-in webcam and wifi. Hence at that time, I didn’t buy this phone (I still had my N93) and rather opted to buy myself a notebook PC instead. It was a good choice for me to buy a laptop since I really needed it more than a new mobile phone at almost the same price.
This year though, I gifted myself with a new smart phone. I got a Nokia N95 with a plum colored backside. I bought it last August and opened it last October. (I have this habit of buying a gift for myself every month, have it wrapped, and open it after a month or two depending on the exigency. J)

But of course the Nokia N95 is not the ‘perfect’ mobile phone. It has its flaws; one of them is the battery life. Depending on how often you use your phone, you may need to charge it daily. It also doesn’t charge through USB. You also can’t terminate a call by simply closing the phone. It also takes like three (3) seconds before an application opens due perhaps to the uber features it has inside. But for me, all the flaws are kinda negligible and are far outweighed by what a user has in store once s/he gets this magnificent mobile phone.
Since Nokia N95 is a dual slider, if you slide up, you’d see the keypad. If you slide down, you’d see the multimedia keys. It will automatically be in landscape mode as well (you must turn it on though). Moreover, the portrait or landscape mode depends on the application that you shall use.

The phonebook has 46 types of fields and you have the option of adding more of the same type. Contacts could be organized according to groups and each contact could also be assigned a specific ring tone. Another good thing with Nokia is you can assign a ring tone or MP3 file as message tone. Right now my message tone is La Loba by Shakira while my ringing tone is Down by Jay Sean.
Wi-Fi of Nokia N95 is brilliant. This means that so long as there is a wireless connection in a restaurant, shop, park, or building where you are you may be connected and go online.

The 5MP camera is located at the rear side of the handset. The lens has a mechanical slide cover for protection. It also has a LED flash. The secondary camera creates images of up to 640x480 pixels. I use this mostly to for thumbnail pictures for my contacts. Since I am so used in using Nokia, I find the camera settings very user-friendly. Editing the pictures is also fun. You could edit the picture in zoom mode as opposed to N93. All the pictures taken are easily viewed in the gallery. They could also be organized into albums.
Nokia N95 has a 3.5mm connector for earphones which means that you could use your iPod or Sennheisers effortlessly. I don’t use the earphones in the sales package for I find other earphones sounding much better. As with my N93, the music player shows the song and artist name. Setting the album image is also possible. One great thing I like about the music player is that you can organize music by genre or composer.

So far the major flaw I see is the battery life. So it’s best that you buy an extra battery especially if you use this handset a lot. In my case, when I’m at work I hardly use it, and then it lasts me for at least 24 hours. During weekends though, I may need to charge at least twice a day.
Again, the battery is also not a major drawback on my end. The uber functional features of this phone are amazing. I believe that after two years from its release, it’s still one of the best smart phones in the world.
